Mohair Rug Cleaning

The rug company can supply any size and colour and a deep or short pile can be specified.

Place the non slip pad we suggest you use masking tape or another kind of tape to secure the pad while laying the rug and removing the tape when done. Never use hot water or the blanket may shrink and loose dye colour. Starting at one end of the rug dip a sponge into the detergent and water solution. If done properly using a wet extraction machine wet cleaning will not damage wool carpets.

Do not spin dry or tumble dry. Do not over wet the fibers. Hand wash mohair or alpaca in warm water with a mild wool wash detergent. Then very gently agitate and swish the blanket through the water to dislodge dirt particles.

Work in a grid of about three feet by three feet and sponge on the cleaning solution using gentle pressure. Wool is very absorbent and can take a long time to dry. Treat stains from fruit juice or coffee with a dry foam cleanser or mild detergent using a clean cloth and water to carefully dab the surface until the stain is lifted. Add a 118 ml 1 2 cup of wool softener to the washing machine and stir with the wooden spoon to blend.

Rinse out the sponge frequently as the soil is transferred from the rug. Any small stains or spills on mohair should be treated immediately using spot treatment techniques. Carefully rest the rolled up rug at one end of the none slip pad. Roll up the rug and set it aside.

These products are dry clean only but we have hand washed many of our mohair throws and blankets in tests and they wash well if washed with care in cool water using a wool approved detergent. Soak fluffy woven mohair or alpaca blanket for a few minutes to soften any dirt. Wool is a type of hair and like any hair it can be cleaned with water. Deliciously soft mohair is hand knotted into a plain textural rug with a luxurious sheen.

Mohair will felt and shrink if exposed to water and agitation so it is important to launder it correctly. First blot the area of the stain with a clean cloth to remove any excess liquid. 70 mohair 30 wool. Carefully clean the floor where the rug will be laid out.

Wait until the surface is totally dry.
